Addiction Unlimited Podcast

Earlier this month, I launched a podcast. It is something I have been thinking about for over a year but hadn’t made the time to learn how to do it.

Any of you that know me personally know I don’t have a problem talking, but I didn’t know anything else about podcasting, what equipment to use, how to edit them, post them, where do they go… I didn’t know anything.

What I did know was I didn’t feel like a website could really do us justice. The world of addiction treatment has gotten a lot of bad press in recent years and, I believe, the industry is not trusted by the public any longer.

There are some bad apples in the bunch just like any other industry. And what I want you guys to know, is there are still some really good apples in the bunch, also.

In building our website I continued to get frustrated because I felt as though I couldn’t find the words to convey who we are. You all know we are sober living in Kansas City, and we excel at sober living by offering a WAY above average product with a ton of love and support.

Many of you know that I am a recovering alcoholic myself, and my business partner and Co-Founder is, as well. [inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”” suffix=””]We are personally connected to this path of sobriety and we are dedicated to our personal recovery above all.[/inlinetweet] And that level of commitment is what sobriety requires.

Many of you also know that I am an Interventionist and a Life Coach. This is how I started my career many years ago, and still two of the most important pieces of my work.

But to me, it doesn’t matter how much education you have, or how many letters you have after your name, if people don’t believe in you and trust you as a person and a professional. And this is what I feel is so difficult to convey on a website.

I think this is why video and podcasting have blown up so much in recent years, because it gives you an inside view of a person, a business, and the personality. That is what is so important.

I thought having a podcast would be the perfect medium to allow people to hear who I am, what is important to me, my story and my history, and even more importantly, to allow everyone to share their stories of addiction and recovery.

My hope is that all the people across the globe who are still suffering from addiction will have a lifeline. A place they can hear other stories and find hope. Where we can hear people who are like us, and we feel connected to one another. And just maybe, that will encourage someone to get out of the suffering and into recovery.

I also hope that family members will have a resource to listen and hear what other family members have gone through. Parents can hear a kid’s perspective, and vice versa, a husband can hear what a wife experienced, we can talk about treatment and intervention and everything else.

I simply wanted a resource where people can find strength and hope, and to know that we aren’t just sober living in Kansas City, we aren’t just another facility offering the same services as every other facility, we aren’t one of the bad apples.

[inlinetweet prefix=”” tweeter=”” suffix=””]We are strong, we are a family, and we are committed to providing the best services and support possible.[/inlinetweet] I hope you will join us in this journey and watch as we evolve and grow. I hope, in one way or another, you will become a part of our family and join us in our community.

I hope you love our podcast, and I hope it helps.
